Jeff Merten

In loving memory
of our dear classmate

On Tuesday, October 13, 2020, Jefferie Lynn Merten, 73, passed away peacefully at his home in Rosenberg. Jeff was born on November 25, 1946 in Houston, TX to Bennie Merten and Elsie Schultz Merten. He attended Waltrip High School in Houston and graduated in 1965. On February 17, 1968, he married Norma Jean Meyer and together they raised 2 children. Jeff worked for WKM and then Cooper Cameron as a draftsman for over 30 years, until at the age of 59, he became a sheriff’s deputy for the Fort Bend County Jail. He worked there for 8 years until retiring in 2013.

Jeff was a faithful and active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Rosenberg for 41 years. He loved to hunt, tinker with “the old car”, and most of all loved spending time with family and friends.

Jeff was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Norma Merten; son, Brian Merten and wife Melinda; daughter, Jennifer Brogdon and husband Robert; grandchildren, Cody Brogdon and fiancé Alexis, Sydney Merten and Carter Merten; brother, Donald Merten and wife Dale; brother, Tom Merten and wife Donna, sister Benny Merten and husband Travis along with a host of other loving family members and friends.

The family would like to thank Silverado Hospice for all their loving care.

A service honoring his life will be held at St Paul’s Lutheran Church on Thursday, October 29, 2020 at 10 am. He was a wonderful husband, dad and pawpaw and will forever be in our hearts.
