Whoops, couldn't agree with all of you more! I started noticing my bosses were younger than me about 15 yrs. ago, and getting younger as the years wore on. I would like to retire, but Obamacare, even though it passed, would probably not be advantageous enough for me to give up company (school) healthcare, as I am one with a pre-existing and chronic disease. So "to work I go".

Tally, I have had some Llano wine, and they are excellent, and Wimberley is well worth the trip, although not as unique as they used to be, but that is everywhere. Fredricksburg is another that seems to have shop after shop of imported, not local, products.

The jewelry and I guess, the hamburger stop in Wimberley is a good stop.

Salado might be a good weekend trip. I think they have a 5K Run coming up.

Kay, I do Wimberley because my dad still lives there. I probably know every little shop and shop owner there because I roam around while Dad is napping. Haven't been to Fredricksburg for years--maybe on my next trip.

James N (Tam) Siedow

To back up Talley and Kay, my wife's sister and her husband live in Lubbock and Llano wines have been a regular Christmas gift from them. In particular, we have had a couple of Llano Cabs and they are really quite good. Fact is we are also getting better and better wines coming out of North Carolina wineries these days and that is not something I would have said even 10 years ago. If you happen to see wines from Shelton Winery in NC, it's almost always worth a try, albeit a bit pricey.

I'll refrain from dwelling on the basketball game last Monday as it appears 98% of the people watching it wanted to see the glass slipper fit. Needless to say, some of us are happy that didn't happen.

Jim, if you haven't tried Llano's Chardonnay give it a try it is excellent also. Someone had told me that the Biltmore Winery was making pretty good wine. What do you think?
I can appreciate your rooting for the Blue Devils (which I think is an interesting mascot for a school with a seminary). Regardless of who you were rooting for that was one great basketball game!

No one has posted anything since 09 April. Are your fingers broken?

Sweetie went to Hawaii and I've seen a couple of photos of her trip, no verbal description.

Mike Parker sent me some fantastic "eagle" photos the other day. Untootie, you should see them. Jarvis, you would be inspired.

My first wife and I will board a ship this coming Sunday in Galveston and sail to Barcelona. Hope the pickpocket guys don't get to me in Spain.

James, I hope you avoid the pick pockets. Years ago when my wife (now ex) and I were in London she wanted to go to the Petticoat Lane Flea Market. As I was paying our Cockney cab driver he tells "Be careful in there guv there's villains about". I asked villians? He says "righto, pick pockets you know" So watch out for the Barcelona version of those villains. When I was traveling with some friends (when single) a friend had his pocket picked on the Paris Metro. It was an ordeal getting passports and credit cards replaced.

I hope a lot of you are going to come out to Fuddruckers tonight for the monthly get together. We need to see more of the class of '65 out there. Our representation has been pitiful lately. Come on out and visit with some longtime friends and make some new ones. See you there!

To all who have posted about fine wines and age - we are all like fine wine, aged to perfection. Jennie, I think that insomnia comes with age. I frequently wake up at night and not go back to sleep right away. It would be nice to be able to take a nap during the day but I'm still working. I do much better if I make myself stay up to watch the news.

Luckily, I work for a company that has many older folks; however, the last few years, they have concentrated on hiring younger folks to be cultivated for management positions in the future.

I am not a connoiseur of wine but if you downed some MAD DOG, I'm sure it would knock you right out! I've never been much of a drinker but started keeping a couple of bottles of wine on hand for company. Unfortunately, it seemed to be disappearing quickly and I learned my grandchildren kept getting into it. As I said, I rarely drink but recently had 2 margaritas - wow, I won't do that again! I did not like the way that made me feel at all and I drove home fromt he restaurant. I'm glad it wasn't far because I would have hated to call my children to come get me. That would have been awkward.

Great to hear from you Dorothy. I am sorry for not being able to come to Fudd's last night to represent '65 but it is baseball season and all my 3 grandkids play. We went to Johnson City on Sat for my oldest grandsons game and then another one last night for him as well. Tonight, Cash and Reese hava a game at 6:30 and then my oldest grandson Hugh has one at 7:30. Well anyway it keeps me active and as long as I don't slow down, I don't have time to think about my aches.
Oh the bluebonnets were gorgeous on Saturday on my trip from here to Marble Falls and then on to Johnson City.
I hope to see everyone at Fudd's in May. And don't forget our Reunion is happening on September 10& 11 so mark your calendars. Let's keep this forum going.

!!! AN ENTERTAINMENT OPPORTUNITY !!!

Howdy fellow Waltripians! This Sunday, April 18th at 4:00 you have a rare opportunity. Oaks Presbyterian Church is having a talent show. Headlined by none other than
Beau Wann, Jr.'64. Beau will be playing and singing with eight other performers. The show should last about an hour and a half. It's in the Fellowship Hall. There's no admission charge (or preaching) and all comers are welcome. Come on out and have good time! You'll probably see some people you haven't seen in a long time (for the most part that's a good thing)! See you there! Oaks is located at 1576 Chantilly, across the street from Black Middle School (that's Black Jr. Hi. to you oldtimers).

Well, he did mention that he would be using his acoustic and electric guitars so I guess a variety. He was in a band in h.s. so I would think r&r. I seriously doubt that you will hear any selections from LLcoolJ or diddy. You should come on out. . . Beau's cool, he's a former Black Panther like us!

Robby,

The ship sailing from Galveston to Barcelona is Voyager of the Sea, the Royal Caribbean line. The ports to be visited are: Nassau, Bahamas; Ponta Delgada, Azores; Malaga, Spain; Cartagena, Spain and Barcelona. The ship is to be "repositioned" from Galveston to Barcelona for the summer season. The basic fare is an unbelievable $499 for a 14 day cruise. I upgraded to a suite stateroom with balcony for a $150 additional fee.

Rob don't worry about it. I read in the Chronicle that Dr. Denton Cooley eats a small serving of vanilla ice cream after lunch and dinner every day. He's 89 and still weighs the same (178) as he did in college. He advocates enjoying food, just eat smaller portions as you get older and stay active.

Robby,

Yes, I'm connecting through London. Hope the dumb ash from Iceland doesn't cause problems.

My boss flew to France two weeks ago to tour Paris and then go to Nantes for his brother-in-law's wedding on the 16th.  Then he was supposed to be back to Paris and then home today.  Now he has been told that the earlierst he can come home is the 26th.  I guess there are worse places to be stuck than Paris, but this is truly weird.  It's the old "I'm stuck in Paris due to a volcano eruption in Iceland" excuse....wonder if I could get away with that one!

Seriously, I do hope he makes it home soon.  Strange times, aren't they?

I really enjoy going to reunions. I also take pleasure in remembering the past reunions. Since my memory isn't what it once was, pictures help.

Videos were made of our reunions in 1985 & in 1990. Once upon a time, I had copies of both. Now I don't. The company that made them is now out of business so I'm hoping that someone in our class is better at keeping up with "things."

I would  really appreciate being able to borrow copies in order to make DVD copies. Help!

Hey folks do you remember what today is? I mean other than the 21st of April. Today is

SAN JACINTO DAY! Probably the most important day in Texas history. Remind other people of it. Particularly your kids and grand kids! It's important that we remember our history. Go visit the San Jacinto Monument and the Battleship Texas. It's a great outing.

Ingrid Sears (Spiteri)

Just got back from a beautiful trip down the Oregon Coast.  Very fortunate to have sun and no rain the whole way.  Travelled in a car that was as old as most of us, a 1947 Buick...what a kick that was.  Richard, the wine in Oregon and Washington is also worth tasting.  It sounds as if the whole country is going into to wine business.

Robert (Robby) Wallis

just thought I'd prime the pump, see if this thing is working...Jennie Dylan..you still out there among the living?  You've been awfully quiet...do I need to come by and peek in the window, look for signs of life?  Got 30 in yesterday and today...wanted to do more but this dam wind in not much fun to ride in....getting ready to ride the Diabetes Tour de Cure San Antone - Austin event the end of May...my riding buddy from Las vegas is coming in and we're gonna ride the DaVinci tandem...RON in San Marcos I think..are you up for something like that? What a beautiful weekend in Houston....even tho the wind, she was a blowin a bit....(a large potted tree on the patio just blew over)  A way out here they got a name, for rain and wind and fire, the rain is Tess, the fire is Joe and they call the wind Mariah.... do I have that right?

Ingrid you are right about the wine. The Pinot Noir from Oregon is excellent. I think there are vinyards in 48 out of 50 states. Alaska and Vermont are the exceptions, I think. I spent the weekend at Canyon Lake. They have a knock out view of the lake. The weather was just outstanding. I was drinking coffee on the patio Saturday morning waiting for the rest of the group to get up and a doe wanders out of the brush. she snuffles around where my friends usually put corn out for the deer. Not finding any she takes about three steps towards me. Stops, looks right at me and flicks her ears three times. As if she's asking "Is my breakfast ready?". After the corn gets put out there are usually 7 or 8 deer on the front yard and the same on the back yard. We weer celebrating one of the ladies 60th birthday. Our hostess knocked herself out with her menu. Birthday dinner was French onion soup, followed by salad of cucumbers, hearts of palm, artichoke hearts and fresh local cherry tomatoes. followed by coq'a vin and green beans accompanied by a nice Sauvignon Blanc and a Cote du Rhone. Dessert was crepes with whipped cream and fresh berries and coffee. followed with cigars on the patio around a very nice fire on a very clear chilly nice. The whole weekend was like that. Now it's back to work. Everyone have a very good day!

Robby, you asked if you got it right.  I'll vote yes and give you the fat cigar.  A very minor bit is that Mariah was originally spelled 'Maria' in 1951's 'Paint Your Wagon' and pronounced like Mariah, not like the Spanish pronunciation usually heard today.

Folks have been sending me nice bluebonnet photos.  Has the season been good this year?  Wifey has never been to Texas during bluebonnet season which I think is the best time to be there.  I keep meaning for us to take a trip there in April but Lil works for a church so is frantic before Easter and exhausted afterwards.  Also, the Northeast greenery explodes in April, plants can be seen to grow almost daily, & flowers are abundant - so it is hard to leave here until Summer.  Oh well, I can dream.

Ingrid, thanks for the photos, etc., about your great trip on the Oregon coast, one of our favorite places on the planet...and in such a swell-looking car!!  We lived in Portland OR for 11 years and were on the coast at least 1 weekend a month because we loved it so much.  Good for you!

What's with the new format on the forum?  Pretty fancy stuff going on!  Are we supposed to enhance our writing styles like....this, or this, or this?????  How about a or or or?  Oh my, this is fun in a weird way.  Does anyone have this new stuff on their forum page when they want to write?  How did it get there?

I have been BUSY tutoring many, many kids.....lots of work so I can do nothing but fun stuff in the summer.

I hate riding my bike in the wind, yet I like riding on cool days, so I have to pick and choose the days I ride.  Robbie, it sounded pretty brutal on your ride!

I'm working on some new canvases in my studio of sorts.   These are purses,  a loggerhead turtle, and a commissioned cake piece,  in the same style of using VERY thick bright paints.

I went to Dr. Watkins the eye doctor for a regular eye exam with my 90 year old mother.  She walked out of there feeling great, while I, on the other hand walked out totally depressed.  He said I need cataract surgery in the next few years, I didn't even know I had one.  I,also have the beginning of some dreadful thing called mascula something or other.  I have to take 4 LARGE vitamin pills a day to stop it from progressing.  I became so OLD in that short visit, I never want to go back!

On top of all of this, wine is starting to make me physically sick!  I love wine, so this is a downer!

I love reading all the comments about wine though.  My, my Richard, you are the expert wine taster of our class!

Where's Peggy Pratt?   I miss hearing from her.  Does anyone know her whereabouts!

Well Jennie, to quote the actor Jackie Coogan, I spent my money on wine, women and song and the rest I spent foolishly. At least, I learned something about wine!

Hi, Jenny, isn't this fun?  About for the first message and then I went back to normal.

Cataract is a piece of cake, had both done.  the Mascular degeneration you do want to stave off!

Ain't Life Fun!
