Bernard Brady

Well, dear friends- My Dad's funeral was this past Sat and today our final family guests headed back home. First of all, thank you to all of you for your kindness and phone calls. I have been here in San Angelo since Aug.2010, living next door to him and Mom. Bought the patio home right next door. I've watched it and seen it all. From "agony to the thrill of victory" as they say. Dad was 90. He had Altzeimers, Congestive heart failure, COPD, and severe diabetes. He had gained weight up to an estimated 300 lbs (he could not stand on a scale). He was such a dynamic Architect in Houston with John Jamail. He retired at age 81 ! Retired to San Angelo in 2003 - my Mom's hometown. Had a mind as sharp as a steel trap until March, 2011 and then it began to let him down. If you have been through this with a parent or two, I do not have to describe it, If you have not, I am unable to find words. He reverted back to a little boy. He ended up in the hospital a bit over a week ago with serious pnuemonia. Dr's call this a seniors best friend as it usually takes them straight to Heaven. It did. While on temporary life support all the children and many grandchildren were at his side when the respirator was turned off. We had all gotten to say goodbye even though he was in a coma. It was a kind process. It was okay. I was stroking his face when he expired. I'm not sure if what I am experiencing today is grief or relief. But all is well. I got to hear alot of his personal history directly from him over the past year. If you should be given an opportunity like this, grab a hold of it.  Love ya all, BJ

BJ, based on my experience with the passing of both my parents what you are experiencing is both relief and grief. Don't beat yourself up over the relief. Everyone who is honest with themselves experiences it. It's all part of the process. From what I've read the grief process takes 1 to 5 years. Just go with it. things will get better. Cherish the fond memories and the bad ones will fade. You've had a rough time so be kind to yourself. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Well I would say hello but apparently there's no else out there. No postings since my last one 6 DAYS AGO! Surely you folks have something to say. Or maybe not. Well it's the 1th of Nov. so I want to remind everyone that WABEC is having an irregularly scheduled meeting on the 12th in College Station. Starts at 1:00 at Abuelo's on University just west of Hwy 6. If you haven't been to the Bush Library or strolled around the A&M campus here's your opportunity. Come on get in the car and drive to CS to have good food with good friends or to make some new friends. You'll be glad you did and so will we.

Rich

Hey Rich-

I'm out here. Loved your comments.  I'm practicing my dancing... I lost my Mom in 2004 and my Dad two weeks ago. I'm okay with my Mother but still a bit tender with my Dad. I am relieved.

I've got one brother- Jeff - Waltrip Class of '68, but transferred to Lamar at my Dad's request. He has lived in Terlingua, TX since he returned from "Nam in 1971- 40 yrs. He and I are very close. I could tell he had a rough time at this latest funeral. I'll tell him about the dancing.

Thanks, my friend- BJ

Hey Rob Happy Birthday!!!! Definitely a milestone Bday. No planned excitement other than  what participants think up. Beau Wann, '64 has suggested that we make WABEC more of a Lodge type group with distinctive headgear. We're thinking about modeling it after The Knights of the Mystic Sea Lodge. So I'm sure there will be some discussion of that. Whatever else takes place will probably be influenced by how much Tequila, wine and beer is consumed. By chance do you have a viking helmet you could wear?

For those of you who haven't been keeping up WABEC (Whirld Affairs & Burger Evaluation Committee) is having and irregularly scheduled meeting this Saturday in College Station at Abuelo's on University just west of Hwy 6 at 1:00. They're open until 10:00 so you can stay and eat, drink and socialize as long as you want to. Come on up and enjoy the good friends that will be there.

Rich

Ah, those Mystic Knights.  Brings back good memories of one of my favorite shows.  Not sure it would play on TV today without controversy.  Anyway, I no longer have a hat anywhere like that of the Kingfish.

I see where you can buy a repro lodge hall sign for only $99.  Holy mackerel!

Congratulations to Richard and Paige on their Big Announcement.

I happened to spot it on that other site (Waltrip '64).

Richard is such a shy guy that he hasn't mentioned it here so I will just have to do it for him.  Yep, they're engaged.    See a bit more at https://www.classcreator.com/Houston-TX-Waltrip-1964/class_forum.cfm  Richard, seems like you have a winner.

Richard Meek

Steve, thank you for making the announcement. I wholeheartedly concur with you about Paige. I think we're going to have a lot of  fun. It is  real culture shock for a guy who hasn't ever had any kids to marry someone who has three sons and eight grandchildren. We're now discussing when to get married. I'm started lobbying for four years, now reduced 3.5 yrs. .. Paige is lobbying for next year sometime. Where do you think you should put your money on the outcome of the discussion? I'm sure we're going to have lots of material for posting on this Forum. Stay tuned!

Richard

Richard- Like everyone who has commented before me, I am so pleased for you and Paige. Some might think that you are getting the better part of the deal, but I have known you since we were mere pups and have always loved your kindness and sense of humor. I'll always have a memory of you as that neat kid with the fire engine red hair. Paige has always been a ball of fire.  You'll make a wonderful team. Two sweeties from the class of 1965. Love to you both, Bernard

My oh my, lots of news since I last checked the forum!  Congrats to Paige and Richard!  My thoughts and prayers to those ill or to loss of famiily members or friends.  Happy Birthday to Robbie this week!  I never knew we almost shared a birthday.  No one talked birthday on Pearl Harbor Day back then.  It was like being born or having a birthday like 9/11.  Oh well, the years melt the pain and life goes on.  I heard they were having the last Pearl Harbor member's club because most of them or dead or so old they will be soonI  The good news is I am on Medicare and I can go to the hospital free of charge.....I hope that is the truth.  My eyes are being treated with these shots twice a month...one in the left one week, one in the righ the next wee and then a month break.  What can I say except I am grateful these keep the worst from happening.  An chronic disease charity is paying my 20 % my Teacher's insurance doesn't pay, which my part would be $800 a month.  If anyone knows of someone facing these burdensome charges and are unable to pay them, please contact me and I will give your their name. Also, if you would like to donate to this non-profit group they sure save people a lot of financial agony.

This is a crazy time of year tutoring kids for finals.  I've missed all of you and will be a Fudd's Tuesday to catch up!

Jennie

Then back to Houston for Christmas with my family. I hope you're getting to be with family and friends at Christmas. It's really a very good thing.

Merry Christmas to one and all.

Best wishes for the holidays.

We will be going to some family gatherings in Central Mass. a couple of hours to the east of us, where many of Lil's relatives are.  I have off next week (yay!) so will get some much-needed chores done around here.

You may enjoy reading and hearing Texan John Henry Faulk's story of an old-fashioned Texas Christmas:  http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=5028755

Say warm and, as is said around here, Keep Dancing!

Crystal has a 3 yr old, Presley, and he is a pistol. She is a Dallas girl. Another Texas woman in Durango.

So, I am a Mother n law and Granny in one fell swoop.

Life is sweet!

May it be wonderful for you and yours.

This is the Year of the Dragon.  The good news for 2012 is that the dragon, full of myth and magic, should
bring us wealth and fortune in the New Year, which is optimistic news in these economic times.

Foretell the future?
Easy! Just predict that you’ll
break resolutions...

On the home front Wifey is now much less busy than she is every year around Christmas, a busy time at a church. I haven't been busy the last few months because the dreaded 'layoffs' word has been in the air since the last 10% cut that was done about 9 months ago.  Makes me nervous.  Now we are in January, budgets have been OK'd, and work wants to get itself done so now I am busy.  Good!  I would rather be busy than not...

It is also a time of political debates, etc.  It's hard to keep up with how things are playing.

Perry seems to be looking not too good and Paul, though apparently doing OK with the folks out there, seems to be looking invisible to the media.

Maybe what I need to make sense of things is this:

but not so sure I should believe what TV would have me believe:

Good afternoon Waltripians. Been having a conversation with Rob Wallis about our graduation. See if you can answer these questions:

1) Where was our graduation held?

2) Who was the commencement speaker?

3) Do you know where your diploma is?

Rich

02/08/12 11:35 AM #1086

Stephen Ray Puckett

OK, I'll play.

1) Delmar Field House.  I have the embossed & engraved invitation in my 'treasures' box at home.  If I didn't have the invitation, I would not have remembered that!

2) Dunno.  Apparently not memorable to me after all this time.  Um, did we have a Salutatorian and Valedictorian?  If so, who?

3) My real diploma is also in my 'treasures' box.  I vaguely recall that I received on stage a rolled up piece of blank paper, a symbolic diploma.   Maybe I am remembering a different graduation.  Oh, well. Perhaps one of you can answer that question.

Steve, foggy-brained

See, I did grauate!!

02/10/12 12:23 PM #1087

Richard Meek

Steve you and Robby and I concur on the location. I'm still not sure about my diploma. I think it may be in one of two places but i haven't looked yet. I still haven't a clue about the speaker.

This website seems kind of lonely lately. Surely some of you folks have some thoughts that are worth putting on the forum. give it a try.

For those of you interested in politics our own Ken Armbrister is kind enough to drive to Houston from Austin to speak to the Pachyderm Club of Northwest Houston. If your interested in attending it will take place on Tuesday the 14th at & 7:00 AM at the Brook Hollow Sheraton. That is where Loop 610 and Hwy. 290 intersect. Ken is going to talk about his 25 years in politics and anything else he wants to talk about. The cost of breakfast is $20. No charge if you don't want to eat. The meeting ends promptly at 8:30. Hope you'll come out.

Rich

Way to go Ingrid. I wouldn't have remembered that in 100 years. Do you have your diploma or know where it is?

Richard-

I'm still unpacking here in San Angelo. I HAVE found my big round class photo of the Class of '65. What a great photo. Have to be honest though, I cannot remember half of those fine souls.

I'm dancing again, my friend !! Bernard

Ok, what's the deal with Ingrid and Rob pulling there postings on the Forum. You know Linda Webster's rule. . .What's put on the Forum stays on the Forum!

I haven't looked for diploma too hard yet. I did find mine from college though. Like several I did find my class picture. Interesting how that keeps turning up for everyone but not the diploma. Except of course for Steve Puckett. Steve you must be one of the most organized people in the world. My hat's off to you.

Hope everyone has great weekend. it's supposed to be a beauty here in Houston.

It's Bluebonnet Season, Y'all!

You can check sightings on http://www.texasbluebonnetsightings.com/    They are also on Facebook so you can 'like' it to get updates.

Wish I was there - it looks like it may be a decent year to see them.

Stephen,

Great picture of the bluebonnets....we are headed back to TX at the end of April to visit our Mom's.

I hope there are still a few left by then that we can see as we drive in from AZ.
