I still think of Ivan once in a while.  We were friends from 4th grade through Waltrip but our paths only crossed twice after college.  Ivan, myself and John Lang discovered we were each born one day apart...March, 25th 26th and 27th respectively.

Ivan was one of our neighborhood kids. Sure he was lots of things to many people but he was a good son.
I always visit with his family when I go home. His Mother died a few years ago but Mr. Jones is still at the car lot near the school.

Ivan was very kind to me after my divorce in Houston. We spent some time together and I will always appreciate his friendship and gentle words.

Our home-room was the Home Ec. room so instead of desks we sat at tables. He sat across from me. I remember him as coming across tougher than he really was. He'd slip and show that sweet side once in a while, then act tough again. It let everyone around him there know that there was much more to him than met the casual eye.

What happened to Ivan? I always wanted to talk to him, he and I had some unresolved things and I just wanted to clear them up. He was a tough guy to read!

James,

The news is not good. Ivan had moved to Las Vegas with his new wife.

He was a collector of bad debts. He came to Texas without his parents knowledge to collect a large gambling debt. . There was gun fire and he was killed. It was one year after his death that the reasons came out.

The good news is that he and Becky had one son. That son played football for Sam Houston State. He was loved by Ivan's parents. That son had children. The Jones contnued caring for that child as good  great  grandparents do.

I was home that summer and went to the funeral. I continued to see the Jones parents until they died.
