In high school, I knew Bill’s name and face but didn’t actually know him. Because of his attendance at our class’s informal gatherings during the past few years and his work creating the Viet Nam Veterans’ Memorial plague for Waltrip High School, I had the previlege and pleasure of getting to know him. Bill was a truly kind, caring gentleman.

I had a really nice, rather long conversation with Bill at the last (Class of '65) Fall Fling (Oct, 2022.)   I did not know him before that, but we found a lot in common related to Waltrip and also our faith. I learned he was brother to my childhood, neighborhood, good friend, Debbie Howard DuBois (Class of '67) and also that he was married to our fellow (Class of '67) classmate, Karen Hansen Howard.  I left there knowing I had met a great person & felt I had a new friend. What a genuinely nice guy! I am so sad to learn of his passing.  My sincere condolences to his entire family.  I have the confidence I will see him again.

Bill, or Sandy as we called him, lived on Lamonte one block from us. Played together, birthday parties, bicycles, etc. My first funeral was in his backyard burying his pet parakeet in a matchbox. His dad was lot of fun, and brother Mark is still one of my best friends. And here in our small retirement community, living across the street, is another neighbor on Lamonte who is also great friends with Mark. Some of you might remember Howard Construction Company on Rosslyn. Sandy's dad and uncles. RIP Sandy.
