Kay Watters (Greene)

Just have to say that when I came into my office this morning, my papers and desk and all were extremely wet. Seems we've sprung a ceiling leak. Set my day up, having to clean and alert the protocol. At the moment we have no maintenance man on board.
Good afternoon and Happy Friday,

If anyone is looking for a DAY F/T JOB at an old school, septic, old pipes, etc, must be ALL AROUND HANDYMAN and of good moral character (?) around students all day. We had one who was a bit of a character, and spoke like one and yelled at the kids....no appropriate knowledge of what to say and do....gone. Got another, he was great at work, but, they say, broke the law after work....gone. Looking for another now. Anyway.....small school 150 students all one-level and located in a very, very, small town...Richards, TX. One must set up an interview with our superintendent, Mr. Ainsworth.

Hope we all enjoy the coming weekend....cold, and wet out here! Has anyone had difficulty swallowing food? I have it going on right now. I'd be interested in your sharing your experience.

Jennie Anderson (Dylan)

Good for you Kaye, keeping the forum moving forward.

I'd like to share something good in the neighborhood. My 90 year old Mother has been recently hospitalized, in fact, several times over the past 3 weeks, but she is now recovering in the old Heights Hospital, now referred to as Select Care. I was presently surprised by its aesthetics. Oh my, it is really nice and my Mother is loving every second she is there. She was so tired of the hospital and loves the TLC she is receiving. So, if any of your older parents need a place for recovery or hospice I would highly recommend you visit there. I was hospitalized there several times as a kid and my family members were, as well. It sort of feels like home, in a hospital setting sort of way. My childhood doctor was Dr. McSpadden. He was so sweet and so good. Anyone else have him as a doctor? He died a few years back, his son-in-law is Dr. Watkins, the eye doctor, practicing across the street from the hospital.

I was hoping to paint this week-end, but I like to do it when the weather is warm, which it isn't. Oh well, maybe I will start anyway.

I am anxiously awaiting the Olympics. I look so forward to them and find I only want to watch them and do nothing else during the time they are on. It will be a relief not to hear about John Edward's, Tiger Wood's, Alec Baldwin, ...........and all that craziness. I quit taking the Chronicle after 40 years and seldom even turn the TV on anymore b/c of news burn-out! I learn about the world by looking online occasionally, or when Linda calls me about an obituary.

Jennie, my mom recovered from surgery at Select Care. They really did good things for her. My sister and I both were favorably impressed and would recommend it. She spent her last couple of years at The Vosswood Nursing Center out by Second Baptist. They also were very good and caring.

Cheer up about the weather. We don't have snow like Sweetie does. Got some pictures from her. That's what I love about living in SE Texas. People have to send you pictures of snow. On the bright side Sweetie will have spring in three or four months.

Looking forward to seeing everyone at Fuddruckers on the 9th. Has anyone heard how Peggy Pratt is doing after her hospitalization?

Everyone stay warm this weekend!

Hello all. I really enjoy reading your comments although I cannot check in as often as I would like. I was in Houston Wednesday and Thursday this week on business and am amazed at the differences in what I see. Traffic is still sooo congested, I do not miss that. I hope I can return at a time when Fudd's is happening though. Working in Irving sorta keeps me in this area. One day....
Has anyone any information on the re-union planning? When might we hear? Definitely looking forward to that.

It was -1 F when we woke up this morning. It may get up to 17 today and 28 later in the week. It's not so bad because there is no snow, at least predicted for the next week. Yesterday was brutal going to Work - it was 5 F and there was a stiff wind. This Texas Boy's face felt like it had knives in it.

Wifey wants to go on a trip soon, somewhere, anywhere - definite signs of Cabin Fever! I asked her, where? She replied, anywhere where it was green & warm & she didn't have to fly & we would only be gone Saturday & Sunday. I know we just saw Avatar but maybe I should just take her back so she could 'be' on Pandora again, maybe at the IMAX version this time.

I'm starting to check again when the bluebonnets will be in bloom in Texas. Visiting there seems like the most wonderful idea in the universe right now!

Hello everybody-
I talked to my Mom and Dad yesterday. They are 89
and 88 and still such a pleasure to visit with.
Its miserably cold, wet, snowy and humid here in
TN, and I promised the family that I would take Susan and go visit them in San Angelo, TX the last week in
March. I have a big coin show to attend then in
Ft. Worth and am really looking forward to the dry,
arid climate of West Texas. My Mom is from San
Angelo and spent her whole career in Houston. Now,
my Dad just loves the climate "out west". Susan and I plan to move back to Texas as early as 2010, and late as
2011. I've been gone from Houston since 1974 when we
moved to Boulder, Co. We moved to TN in 1986. The
folks here in TN are just sweet loving folks. My ancestors moved from Ireland to NC, to TN and then to
Maysville, TX.
I truly love the Waltrip website. Thank you Linda and
all of your team. Such a labor of love.

It's good to see the chatter has come back....I really enjoy following it here in Phoenix, and getting the "news" from home. Jennie mentioned Heights Hospital (now Select Care I guess)....I was born in that hospital in 1947, as
was my Mom, and my sister. When they tore down the old hospital some years ago, my Mom went down there and got a brick from the original building for my sister and me...she still has mine stored somewhere at her house. Some of you
may remember Dr. James Synnott (Sue's dad), who was our family doctor for all the years I was in Houston. This winter has been a cold one for us here in the desert....most of you would not consider it so cold, but for us thin blooded desert rats, it has been quite cold, and wet. We got about half our annual rainfall amount just in January, so it looks like it may be a banner year for rainfall, which we really need....by the way, just over 7 inches a year is our average...about the amount of one really good thunderstorm there in Houston.
Hope to see more from all of you as 2010 progresses....best to all of you.
-John

Well, I am sick of Colorado snow. Just booked my spring break in Maui at Kealia Resort. If you can plan a trip come on over. March 21 - March 25.

Leah Favella

Hi Everyone from Fla...

Well a few weeks ago it got to 26 here and that may not sound cold to most...but we have no heat in our office buildings...now talk about cold for our thin blood for 2 weeks people were in their snuggies, that by the way was sold out all over Ft.Lauderdale.... in 24 hours of the cold...I was fortunate to have central heat...because alot of people had no heat at home....

02/01/10 03:31 PM #403

Richard Meek

Well Leah, I know what you're talking about. My central heat went out in the wee hours of Saturday morning. It wasn't 26 but we did have a freeze. Being without central heat this weekend reminded me of the old days growing up before central heat. When we turned off the gas space heater, for safety, when we went to bed. Just like Hurricane Ike left us without AC for two weeks. Both reminded me how spoiled I have become to those comforts and how much I like them. There are some things about the "good old days" I'd just as soon not go back to.

One thing about the good current days is the get togethers at Fuddruckers. I look forward to seeing everyone on Tues. the 9th.

Hey Sweetie- I see you are weary of Colorado snow.
Susan and I lived for 12 years in Boulder Canyon (at the
bottom) of course, and we got no sunshine on our home
or driveway from Nov-Feb. By Feb. the snowpack on
our driveway was about a foot packed and slick as a
baby's butt. My big memory of living in Boulder is
trying so vary hard not to slip and fall and then
slipping and falling for four dang months. While the
view was gorgeous, Boulder only had 3 seasons - June,
July and Winter. I never got used to it. It is one
thing to vacation in Colorado, and a different reality
to live there. The avg starter home in Boulder now
is about $400-500K. About 1,200 sq. ft. and the prop
taxes are absolutely unimaginable. My friends that still
live there work, and then work for a hobby. No way to live. We all might as well move back to Texas. Who was that from our class that was going to start a city in
Central Texas called Waltripia, TX. ? Sign me up.

Bernard Brady

To my old buddy Robby Wallace-
That does it..
I'm sick of this cold, humid, moldy, nasty
blizzard cold and over 30 straight days of rain and
snow. I'm moving back to Texas. Susan and I have decided
to be out of Tennessee and onward to San Angelo
(all of my family retired there) by the end of this year.
I retired in July, 2009, and while I would miss the
wonderful friends that I have made here in 23 years,
I'll just have to go to Fudd's and renew a whole new
group. My daughter Kristen lives in Katy, so we'll get
to see the grandcritters. Love you guys on the Message
Forum !!!

B.B. - sounds like a plan!

Pretty hard to beat Texas!

Well BJ you're moving in the right direction by moving to San Angelo. It will definitely be better than TN. Something ironic since you lived in Boulder. A cousin of mine who used to live in San Angelo, now lives in Boulder. She and her husband had to move out of their new house because of problems with mold! They're now fighting with the builder. Anyway who'd a thunk that mold would be a problem in the high Rockies?

Hey Jennie, did you go get a BL&T at the Carter & Cooley Deli? Hope you get started painting soon. For those of you who don't know, Jennie is a very talented artist!

Kay you've been wanting some better weather, looks like you get your wish this weekend. I'm with you on that. I'm tired of this gray, cold weather. Although Sweetie and BJ would disagree about cold. This 50's in the daytime and 40's at night would be like Spring time to them.

I was reading a book review last night on a book titled
"Food Rules" by Michael Pollan. He is the current nutrition guru. A couple of quotes I remember that are funny; "if your meal arrives through the window of your car it's not food" and "if your cereal changes the color of the milk, don't eat it".

Everyone try and stay dry and warm the next couple of days.

Richard

Jennie Anderson (Dylan)

Yes, Richard I went there for lunch today and had the most DELICIOUS BLT I have ever eaten! OMG it was so big I could hardly get my mouth around it, and with my mouth, that is saying something! I plan to try their soup tomorrow and so on, as long as my Mother is still across the street recovering. I plan to eat there a lot! I actually worked on Algebra 2 problems I had to tutor later this afternoon, while I was eating. It was a great place for reading, studying, drawing and more......
Thanks for the comment about my art. I will start this weekend. Steve Puckett sent me some beautiful Hawaii waves, the curls, and I want to paint one of them I really liked. We'll see how it turns out. I'm ready, but warmer weather would even be more motivating.
Hope to see lots of old, but new faces at Fudd's, PLUS the old faces of those who come most months. It is always fun!

Hi Boys and Girls, long time since I've weighed in here. So, Seattle had record rain last winter, record heat last summer, record cold in early December, and the warmest January on record. Our average temp was 47, which I realize isn't exactly a heat wave, but it's been very comfortable. Right now it's sunny with blue skies and I can see the snow-covered Cascades out of my window here at work. That's where I like the snow--up in the mountains!

My year started out a bit differently than planned. Had to make a quick trip to Wimberley to check on my dad (January 15-19). Got to meet his new caretaker and his hospice nurse and generally see how all is going. I'm going back for the end of March, but he thought he wasn't going to live that long and wanted me to come sooner. Glad I did, although he'll probably outlive us all!

Then I found out a dear friend that now lives in Tucson is coming to the end of her battle with breast cancer. She started her battle at age 34 and just turned 55. After three valiant bouts with it, it has spread to her liver and stomach lining and the doc said this is it. She came up here for a visit and to say her good-byes with all her friends up here, and she looks absolutely amazing--radiant even. I keep hoping and praying that the cancer will magically disappear. She stayed with me a few nights last week, and I invited a bunch of folks over. Everyone shared stories and picture and lots of laughs--very upbeat. She also spent some time with her childhood friends, and the same thing occurred there. I've decided that we're all terminal and should all create our "bucket lists." I need to do so many things around my house, but I would much rather take trips and visit with friends.

I'm heading to Palm Springs on the 13th to visit a friend who is spending a couple of months there. We're going to drive over to San Diego to visit my brother for a couple of nights and back to PS to chill. The weather there hasn't been too good either. Oh well.......it's not always about the weather, is it?

I will be back in Texas March 27 - April 3 but probably not in Houston. Will spend some time with my cousin in Industry (way out in the boonies) and then on the Austin area and back to Wimberley.

Yes, I've thought a lot about returning to Texas after I retire (if I ever can!). I've been here almost 39 years (hard to believe), but I am still a Texan at heart.

Meanwhile, while I'm here if anyone wants to check out the Pacific NW, you are more than welcome to visit.

Hello everyone. As most of you know the Winter Olympics starts soon. We know Jennie Anderson is an avid fan as I'm sure others are. There is a competitor with a Houston connection. Ruben Gonzalez is a 1988 graduate of
Houston Baptist University. He will be competing in the Luge for his native Argentina. This will be Ruben's 4th Olympics. Ruben is 47. He will be the first person to compete in 4 Olympics in 4 different decades. he had to sit out several Olympics because he couldn't afford the cost of training and competing. Like most Olympians he has to personally finance his training and competition expenses. He is already planning to compete in the 2014 Olympics. If you want to read an article about him go to:
www.universalsports.com/news/article/newsid=404594.html. It's pretty interesting how he came to be a winter Olympian. Or you may be able to access the article throught the HBU website; www.hbu.edu. Anyway there aren't many winter Olympians from Houston.

Fudd's tonight, everyone. It will be cold on the outside, but warm on the inside, with friends and good conversation. I think I will eat one of their hamburgers, which are very fattening, but oh, so tasty! See you there!

Hello out there. Not much chatting has gone on lately. Are we to presume that our friends to the north like
BJ Brady, Sweetie Marbury,Steve Puckett, et al have frozen to death in the frigid polar region they live in. Well I certainly hope not because somone has to live in those areas. By their sacrifices the rest of us can continue to live in Texas. If they're still with us i wish they would pick up the pace telling people up north what an inhospitable place Texas is (they don't need to know the reality, do they?). There are way too many of them migrating here. One problem when they get here is they keep wishing it would be like Ohio or Indiana. Go figure.

Jennie is right if you're in town or can get there come out to Fuddrucker's tonight for the monthly gathering of Waltripians.

Memo To: Linda Webster
Subject: Lethargy or possible death rampant amongst S.P. Waltrip HS graduating class of 1965. Please investigate to see if many roses need to be placed beside names in class profiles. You don't need to bother with me or Jennie Anderson Dylan. Kay Watters seems to be ok also. We were both at Fudd Tuesday last night. I look forward to your findings.

Greetings to all,
I totally loved the message re: the northerners - please stay home (and warm) and if you wish to visit, come around July and Aug. to see what we must deal with to live here as well.

Regarding the no-chat forum here, We either have:

Beau Wann who is immensely comical, chatty literature enriched, more than keeps the ball rolling on the '64 forum. Please get out of your lethargy and take a look at the '64 forum to see what works. We need an instigator such as Beau, who in our class do ya want to volunteer?

I have even copied my comments from '64 to '65 to see if I can get anything going here. (I have no chemistry to get the ball rolling) and I feel the forum doesn't need me to answer every message, we must ALL SHARE if we want our forum to exist.

SPEAK UP ON ANY CONTROVERBAL SUBJ, OPINION, anything!

02/10/10 01:33 PM #415

Richard Meek

Okay, here is a trivia challenge I gave to the '64 folks. I'm sure you all remember the tv series Bonanza. If you remember that you obviously remember Hoss played by Dan Blocker. I'm pretty good on tivia but my sister Becky ('68)stumped me with this one. What was Hoss' given name. Now you have to do this with your own memory. Don't Google it. Feel free to jump right in!

John Leediker

Ya...what's the deal?...I looked at the chat on '64 and it is far greater than here on '65. We should be a lot more active....especially considering we are younger than them
and have "youth" on our side still.......LOL!!
