Linda Webster

Only 3 more days 'til the start of our Reunion

I don't have to worry about what I'll be wearing because no one will recognize me anyway. I will be wearing a bag over my head because my hairdresser made a mess of my hair. Of all times for her to do that.

Oh well it will still be good to see everyone especially since I will be incognito---

Miss Diva is usually afraid of them...lol

Good afternoon fellow Waltripians. Any reports of my demise are greatly exaggerated. I am still alive and able to fog a mirror.

I read an article in the Chronicle yesterday that drew me up short. Everyone of our contemporaries that I told about this has had the same reaction. Utter some expletive under their breath. Anyway, on sunday at the Co-Cathedral down town they had  a ceremony (been doing it for 48 years) for any couple that had been married for 50 years could renew their wedding vows. I'm thinking to myself, "well that's kind of nice" until I read the following sentence. All the couples participating were married in 1960!!!!

OK, what did you think?

Rich

Linda, I hope you decorate your bag in sequins and beads, & with lots of ribbon.  I ran into Ashley Glass yesterday and he told me that our reunion took place last weekend.  He said Tommy Tucker told him.  I knew he was wrong, but still it made me doubt myself some.  I was sure glad when I got home a rechecked.  He gave me a senior moment there for a second.

Peggy, Diva is priceless!  How great to be a dog and not know it.

When is everyone getting to the bar on Friday night? I'm ready to start rockin!

Susan Carle (Crowley-Wasson)

Linda - Don't feel bad about your hair.  Mine turned out a mess this week also.  Maybe it will be dark in the bar and no one will notice!  After all, it has to be better than 1965!!!!

I'm dreading the Houston humidity...my hair will immediately droop and go straight as soon as I get off the plane.  Looking forward to seeing everyone.

Heck I'm just happy I still have hair to comb!

Jennie Anderson (Dylan)

 Susan,

You and Sally had the most gorgeous hair in junior and  high school, in my opinion.

Everyone else,

No one has time to look at hair, b/c everyone will be trying to figure out who everyone is.  If we have name tags with our senior pictures that really helps, but if not, it is surreal.  You just stand there with this weird look trying to figure out if you even remember this person at all.  Many times those memories are long gone, b/c we are older now with dimmer memories, in some cases.  I think it is more like the game Guess Who?

I personally keep my hair short b/c it is so easy, but I promise not to look at anyone's hair unless it covers their face or they don't have any!

How much fun was that last night?  I found it was surreal  and full of joy and appreciation for being with such wonderful people.  It was great to be with friends I hadn't seen is so many years and be able to recognize the impact they each had on the adult I would become.  I wouldn't trade last night for anything. Likewise, it was great to be with new friends I've met through this forum and nights at Fudd's. Thanks to all involved in planning and coordinating such a night.  It couldn't have been easy.

Your friend, the one in the "hot" "hot" dress,

Jennie

By the way everyone looked "hot" to me.  The clothes were really modern and fun to see, just as the people wearing them were!

I thought the whole week end was great.  It was so nice to connect with old friends.  This was the best reunion ever!  I looked at my pictures today and my hair wasn't the problem it was that "old age spread"!  Oh well, that's life at 63!!!!  Susie, et al, did a fantastic job.....

Once I figure out how to do it, I'll download some of my pictures.

I agree with Susan and Jennie, Friday and Saturday were great. Many thanks to all who worked getting everything organized and those who made it all happen Saturday night. It was a really special evening. It was great to see Ms. Kahla, Ms. Barden, Mr. Tusa and Mr. Burton. It's always nice to see people that had such a special place in our lives. Jack Bevill you showed great courage in trying to coax a solid performance out of that untrained group. I hope it wasn't so bad  that you threw your baton away. These reunions always reinforce for me, how fortunate we all were to grow up in Oak Forest at that time. What a wonderful bunch of people you are. I'm glad you're my friends.

Keep on dancing,

Rich

To All

One of our classmates lost his Mother last week, so I know you will join me with thoughts and prayers going out to Ed Kuehn & his family.

I had a great time and not because I had any part in making it happen. I can't tell you the last time I didn't get in bed 'til 3:30AM, and that's just because my memory is going, but I do know that it will take me a couple of days to re-coup.

And to you Richard have a great time at Fudd's on Tuesday but just remember "what happened at our table on Saturday  STAYS AT OUR TABLE" Just kidding.

I totally enjoyed both nights, and made a new friend that I will remain friends with forever.

Everyone looked great and for those of you living in and around Austin who didn't get the flyer we are starting a monthly get-together at the Fuddrucker's in Cedar Park. The first one is October 12, 2010 for all who can come. We are planning to move it around monthly so it will be convenient for all. Everyone is invited even if you don't live in the Austin area and it is not only for the class of '65.

CLASS OF 65

I'd like to let those who did so much work in arranging our 45th reunion, how much I enjoyed it and how much I appreciate the work all of you did! I had such a great time! I have to admit that I got a couple of tears in my eyes when I looked up on the screen and saw my wife and I dancing at the 1985 reunion. (She passed from cancer in 1999). I graduated from high school with a special and wonderful group of people. It was great getting to experience just how wonderful all of you are today. Blessings to all of you and THANKS AGAIN! IT WAS GREAT!

Pictures to follow soon!

Hey everyone, was last weekend fun or what?  I had a blast.  It was wonderful seeing all of our classmates...catching up with old  friends I hadn't seen in 45 years and making new ones. Thanks to Suzie and her team for making it a reunion to remember.  The only other reunion I attended was the twentieth and I have to say this one was 10 times more fun.  I'm looking forward to the next one in 5 years.

Jennie, my lips are sealed on that. You can try to pry it out of Linda but I don't think she'll give it up.

I completed three days of jury duty this week and it wore me out.  The people of the jury panel wear on me during voirdire with their answers and comments to the questions that are presented by the attorney.  Most of the time the answers or comments have nothing to do with the questions.  Also, some answers from the jury panel members are fabricated to prevent being selected as a juror and the judge allows that nonsense.  I want to get up and start chocking the guy that tries to eliminate himself from serving on the jury.  I am amazed that some of the people called for jury duty have the ability to locate and arrive at the jury assembly room.  I always look both ways twice, yes twice, before stepping off the curb to cross the street because I realize some the folks called for jury duty are driving automobiles.

I'll step down from the soap box for now.  Hope I didn't wear you out with my rant.

James, I have been on 4 jury panels in my life:

#1 & #2

What do you do for a living, sir?

Me: I am a computer programmer.

Juror dismissed

#3

Do you read magazines and if so, how many, sir?

Me: Yes, sir.  A dozen or so.

Juror Dismissed

Dunno what they were wanting but possibly a juror that would be easily swayed by argument.

For #4 I was selected for the panel but the defendant plea bargained a guilty plea while the panel was being questioned so they sent us home.  I won't be eligible again for a panel for 6 more years.

I agree that the folks sitting around me did not seem like the best material for a jury that I would want for myself but I suppose it *is* a cross-section of the population
