I fully empathize with your sentiments, Talley.  But for someone to crab when a fellow classmate posts something about a serious illness in the family in hopes of some comforting words and power in their prayers, that's inexcusable.  I can't imagine anyone doing that and I don't want to scroll up to find out who.  But personally, I will abandon this forum forever if that ever becomes the official policy.

I love the receipes and the reminiscing, too.  But we live in dangerous times and I can understand when someone's frustrations pop out and post something of a political nature on here.  So what? Let them vent a bit and feel better.  Might save them from an ulcer.  On the other hand, this forum shouldn't be the Rush Limbaugh Show either.

Now, to demonstrate my personal mental discipline, when Mary said she was hankering for a horse, I was tempted to say, "Hey Mary, I hear there's a famous horse that's gonna be cut loose in January....ooops, scratch that...it's just the southern half of one."

Thank goodness I was able to refrain....

I so appreciate your comments Talley and your willingness to step into the forum once more.
The Houston Chronicle recently published an excerpted recounting of Bobby Kennedy's comments following the assassination of Martin Luther King. It's a valuable commentary that, unfortunately, rings true still today - perhaps more than ever. That violence in any form, for any cause - good or evil - tears st the fabric of life and degrades the whole nation. Surely there's another way.

Like Talley, I stopped reading/responding to the Message Forum.  You think this was bad, Talley, I had to block several people on Facebook because of the awful anti-Obama/Hispanics/immigrants etc. spewing out of their mouths or in picture postings.  A lot of our 1965 Class have turned into anti-.....everyone!

I think if you checked the forum diligently and honestly, you would find that less than 1% is anything objectionable by anybody.  To expect perfection and everything agreeable by everyone is unrealistic as well as impossible.  Even Talley's heartfelt post when she needed her friends here and their kind words and, it appears, got slapped down by some cold-hearted soul.

I hope Talley and Barbara will keep on contributing.  No hate mongering allowed but let's not lose our sense of humor even in these difficult times.  Will Rogers had a great way of poking fun of our leaders without offending anyone.  But it did make people think and that's what I hope America is doing now.

Hugs, ya'll

Greetings all, I think one thing you have t keep in mind is that human nature is pretty consistent. All races and religions have good people and bad people. You have to try and treat folks based on their behavior. However those of you who think all people are implicity good need to rethink that. I think Benny can verify from personal experience that there are plenty of people out there who are rotten to the core. I also think you need to understand that folks get tense when some other folks vow to chop off your head if you don' believe the way they do. The radical Islamists have made that vow and they are pursuing it.  I'll agree with you I don't want the Forum to become a restatement of the media hype about everything unpleasant but some discussion of current events is desireable. You can't just hide your eyes and hope it goes away.

So that said does anyone have any recipes?  Just remember during these trying times, Stay calm, Carry on!

Sprinkle slices with Parmesan, panko, Tony Chacheres, basil

Cook in 400 degree oven until brown; snack

Pork Country Ribs at Kroger: start charcoal fire on the pit; season pork with Tony Chacherie's; when the charcoal is ready place the pork over the coals and sear all sides; remove pork and wrap ribs in aluminum foil two or three per package; place the packages on the pit; cover the pit and cook the ribs about 20 minutes.  Great for an appetizer.

One of the biggest disadvantages of being my age is when my fellow classmates start talking about delicious zucchini chips and pork ribs and make me drool all over my keyboard.  I'll have to clean up this mess as soon as the smoke clears.  Gee guys, thanks a lot!

I do not think that our class is unkind or uncaring, and right now Carol Thamer Hanson needs our prayers intensely.  She had back surgery three weeks ago, and is having a majorly difficult time recovering.  The details are long and complicated, but please keep Carol and her husband Tolef in your prayers.  She needs relief from pain and the ability to move about.  Those who know Carol realize what an active person she has always been, so this situation is really difficult.  If you want her address to send her a card, let me know.  She is not able to get to computer right now. You can post your email on my personal page and I will send you her address.

I'm a member of a closed blog for some of us who suffer from depression and anxiety. We support each other and have fun too. One of the things we do is to give hugs to ones who need them. I'm giving one to Carol, in hopes it may help her healing process. This is the way we do it... {{{{{{{Carol}}}}}}}

Thanks Jacquie for letting me know about Carol.  Beverly and I will certainly hold her in our prayers.  This love and caring we have for each other is one of the things that make me so proud to be a part of this Forum and the Class of '65.

Mary, I want to thank you for sharing that "e-hug" thing that you and your group do.  That is so sweet!  I teach a worldwide class every day and often a student will work and study hard and accomplish amazing things.  Instead of just telling them I'd like to hug 'em, with your permission, now I can by using that cool thing you do.  Thanks!

Bernard Brady

Hello all -

I enjoy all of the comments both here and on Facebook.  And Linda, you have always been known to speak your mind and I have known you since Oak Forest Elementary. My favorite comments come from Steve Puckett.  Old Roger would rate second. Roger is an "old soul" who can calm anyone.  We have some pretty amazing folks in our class.  I've never mentioned that I worked for Humana Hospital 1987-2007 and for the Alabama Department of Mental Health as a Consumer Advocate from 1995-2010. I could go into Alabama's twenty five mental health centers or seven State Mental Hospitals and visit with Bipolar and Schizophrenic patients at any time. I could ask them any questions about their care. I was fully trained in those two fields. I have an incredible love and compassion for the mentally ill. They never got a shot at the life we had together at Waltrip. We are all so very blessed.

Hey Bernard, our rating systems have similarities.  You're absolutely right.  By far, Steve Puckett takes first place.  His memory and access to photo trivia is beyond amazing.  But, for second place, I'd have to go with Steve Puckett.

I just want to tell folks that I have bought a horse. Not the Appaloosa broodmare of my dreams, just a horse to love. I got to thinking that if I could go back in time and get any of my prior horses, the one I would get would be my first horse, Travis, a gelding of unknown ancestry. Oh how I loved him!! So I went to a website for cheap horses in Texas and found a solid bay mare just to love and to fool with--brushing and petting and feeding and loving. She was a registered quarterhorse at one time but her papers were lost somewhere before the current owner got her.  She is gentle and sweet. That's all I need at my age.

I certainly don't find themembers of our class any less caring or kind than the folks in the class of '64. I find our folks very caring and supportive.

I also don't think someone speqking their mind about the President is villifying. When you've got the top job you are the person who makes the final call. Consequently when things don't go well you take the heat or if they go well you get the accolades. During Obama's presidency it has been an awful lot of heat and few accolades. Even my liberal (oops sorry I forgot all you liberals became progressive when liberal fell out of favor) . Even my progressive friends aqre saying they hope whoever the next president is will be better than Obama.

Well it won't be long until the conventions and then we'll offically know who the candidates will be. Whatever you do go vote in November. Don't sit home and pout no matter who you support. That won't prove anything .Keep on dancing like no one is watching!

Congratulations Mary!  I am so glad that you followed your heart and got that horse.  I know no horse will get more love and attention than yours will.  Please post pictures if you get a chance.

When Rolex, my "watch"dog of 14 years went to that "big kennel in the sky" I decided to replace him with a horse.  Like Rolex, he liked to jump in bed with me but every time he did the whole bed would flip over.  But when you love your horse, sleeping on the floor is a small sacrifice.  (Mary, if you believe this story I'm going to worry about ya).

Good post, Richard.  Anyone educated enough to spell "corruption" knows that America is in a full blown death spiral.  No one can complain about our leadership because we don't have any to complain about.  We elected a guy to play 8 years of golf for free while he ridicules our police and divides our citizens.  In many countries, speaking out like that gets you silenced with a gun.  In America, speaking out gets you silenced with the mouths of liberal progressives and those with their head in the sand.  So, which is worse and "what difference does it make" how a patriot gets silenced?

Does anyone have an address or phone number for Lynda Laird? She gave my mother a painting she created with a razzor bblade when she was a student at Waltrip. My mother is now deceased and I thought Lynda may want it. No more posts from me, I am fresh out of recipes.

My mother and Lynda's mother worked together for several years and in about 1964, when Lynda's mother Peggy remarried, I believe that they all moved to California with the new husband. I think it was Los Angeles, but I'm not sure. That's the best I can contribute. At least it is a place to start.
