Ann Robin Trimble (Haney)

Happy New Year to all of the awesome folks of the class of 65! May 2018 bring all of us peace, positivity, prosperity and the continued friendship of our dear friends from Waltrip High. I, for one, feel extremely blessed to have grown up with you all in our wonderful little "small town" neighborhoods of Oak Forest/Garden Oaks. Life was sweet and simple, and as young people, we knew our boundaries and respected them, We had teachers as role models and we respected them. Our church families helped raise us to be respectful, kind, caring, generous human beings and to make a difference in out little world. If only we could recreate those wonderful days! I wish you all God's blessings, and hope that we're all still around a year from now to welcome in 2019!!

I love that we can share memories of childhood, post our grandchildrens's pictures, and fill in some of the details of life. Bless you all.

I look forward to April and hope to see you then. My airplane tickets are booked for the Waltrip mini reunion.

If you ever have an opportunity to travel to the Southwest please come to Durango, Colorado. Ride the train, float the river, go  to the Bar D Wranglers. The West has the spectacular scenery you saw in the movies. Yes, it's all true. The public lands drive our economy and recreation.

I become Mayor of Durango  again in April 2018. Who knew budgets, sewer and water, streets and infrastructure could be so alluring to a Houston girl. I think the seeds were planted in high school by our dear Mrs. Kahla. We talked just before she entered the hospital. She was my friend.

I hope you have good health and happiness in 2018. My best to all.

I can only echo Robin's comments from above.
We all were truly blessed to have grown up when and where we grew up.
We learned important moral and social virtues growing up, which made us good stewards as adults.
I wish each of you a healthy, productive and harmonious new year and I too look forward to bringing in 2019
God bless each of you
Now to figure out how Im going to spend my Social Security raise....

On this date in 1964, fifty-four years ago today:

Face the Nation, Groucho Marx, The Twentieth Century (a program on science and technology, hosted by Walter Cronkite--with fantastic theme music by George Antheil), Have Gun, Will Travel, Dragnet, Bonanza, Walt Disney, What's My LIne?, Ed Sullivan Show (I remember seeing Al Hirt, Louis Armstrong, Pete Fountain, Robert Goulet, Carol Lawrence, Jan Pearce, and so many others), Judy Garland Show (sometimes with Liza Minelli), Naked City, etc.

From a Houston newspaper listing--only three channels and still more of interest than most of the crap today. No infomercials, sitcoms, or reality shows. And no Jerry Springer and their ilk.

Have a good new year all. Enjoy dropping by and easedropping on everyone here.

Living in Boulder CO. now but planning a family re-union in Wimberly, Tx. March/Arpil timeframe.  Any here remember Blue Hole?  Also, trying to get a reunion at Houston of interested ex-Garden Oaks/Mangum Manor/ Waltrip inmates. So far , Rodger Felton, Chip Barrnett, Austin Zent, Tam Siedow, Mike Germany and Kenny Mosser are on the hit list. If there is a mini-Waltrip reunion, would like to sync if possible.

Let me know if any interest. Roy

Oh my! I was really hoping to be able to attend the upcoming mini reunion but after all my many bone injuries we are finally "on the road again" the month of April to the Pacific NW and British Columbia. All you attendees have a great time and I will certainly try to catch the next one.

Jan, if you get on Vancouver Island and enjoy beautiful gardens we would highly recommend Buttchart Gardens near the quaint town of Victoria. A truly amazing place!

Teddie, We will be staying a few days with friends who live on Victoria. They will be taking us sightseeing and we have allowed a full day at Butchart Gardens. Our friends tell us it will be beautiful in April.

Jan,

You will love Butchart Gardens.  I was there last Spring and the tulips are spectacular.  Be sure and ask them how many tulip bulbs they plant every year.  You won't believe their answer.  It is truly one of the most beautiful places I've ever been.  I've been lucky enough to be there in the Fall and Spring.  Enjoy!!!!

Spring has apparently come early here in SW Virginia.  The daffodils are blooming and it is almost a month ahead of their usual time.  Hope we don't get another hard frost.

Where was I in 1968, fifty years ago? I was starting engagement #2, riding a Norton then an Indian Chief, driving a 1959 Ford Fairlane that I had to wire the passenger door to keep it closed, working at the UT film library then TX Parks & Wildlife as an outdoor recreation planner plus being a computer operator at night, thinking that college graduation was in the very dim future, & thinking I was probably draft bait soon, too soon.

It was a different world 50 years ago:

Stephen, this banking advertisement looks closer to 1920's....surely we were more progressive than this!  As a retiree that moved to Grimes county to wear the national "jeans and t-shirt" I missed out on the fur coat attire...lol

It has certainly been a grueling winter of sorts.  as we've not had much sun in over a month....Sat. we had to turn on the AC/Sun back to heat, water all over the acreage....tomorrow promises to be a bit better.  Our weather is pretty consistently 5-10 deg. hotter or colder than Houston.  So ready for Spring!

STOP THE BULLET TRAIN IN GRIMES COUNTY!

Kay - yes, it does seem like those practices were from 100 years ago but this ad comes from a handbill for 'The Sound of Music' when it was performed in the 60’s at the Music Hall.  The furrier photo is of a Ft Worth salon in 1963, from Life Magazine as I recall.

Speaking of old practices, ladies would also meet at the Azalea Terrace (Foley's), the Sky Terrace (Sakowitz), or at the Zodiac (Neiman's, which is still there).  I remember mother & I met my aunt a few times at the Azalea Terrace where we would have lunch and watch models showing off clothes.  I thought that was pretty exotic as a little boy.

At Foley's, at least, the men had their own place:

Just count me in for the planned event....please let me know what I can bring....we've got to kick it in and enjoy while we can.  Talked to Pat Sirvello and hoping she and her hubby can make it.  We had such a fun time in the '60's...don't really know how everyone has evolved, but I just bet we all have stories to tell!

Oh my Gosh....Apri 19th for the Ram Jam is next week.....will probably have good weather.  I'm still coming!  I know we have all had some cold weather, winds, hail and all  This will truly be a coming out party for "SUMMER"  memories of summers in Oak Forest...lol. Just wish we had the pool we used to sun-bathe at!
