In loving memory of our dear classmate

Memorial services for Benjamin Reed (Pete) Gardner, 40, of Sulphur Springs, were held Monday at the Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Mike House officiating.  He died July 31, 1987 in Hopkins Co., Texas.  He was a former employee of Best Western.

 

If so desired, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.

 

Mr. Gardner died Friday morning in Hopkins County Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.

 

He was born Jan. 2, 1947 in Dallas, the son of Jack and Betty Gardner of Harlingen.  He married Minda Knisley of Greenville on April 8, 1964.  She survives.

 

Other survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Gardner; two sisters, Patti Farquhar of Houston and Barbara Christensen of Ogden, Utah; and a brother, Michael E. Gardner of Houston.

Robert (Ben) Carbo

Pete anchored the front defensive line at the middle guard position of our '64 football team. Not much got around him and certainly nothing ever got through this gentle giant. Gentle, that is, everywhere but on the football field. Pete was a good friend to all who knew him.

Who couldn't love that smile!  Pete was the stong, silent type, and a really nice guy!

I did not realize Pete had passed so young. As so many others, we were in elementary through high school together. RIP, Pete.
