Ricky was a nice person. I didn't know him that well, but I hope the bouquet by his name will spark memories of him for others to share.

I remember Ricky as a wonderful person and his teenager love for his beautiful girlfriend, Cindy. One of my favorite days when he, Cindy, myself and Robin Chalk went on a hay ride. Ricky could always put a smile on anyone's face.

Ricky and I had just starting dating when he was killed in a car accident. The police called me because my name was in his wallet, and my parents rushed me to the hospital. I remember how devastated his parents were, yet how strong they seemed. How could I as a child then understand what they were going through to lose their only child? I recall that nearly the entire class came to his funeral, and his family's moment when they came out and saw the standing-room-only attendance. I stayed close with his mother and father until I moved away from Houston at graduation, and she made my beautiful prom dress for me. I still have it. I lost contact with them eventually, but I have never forgotten you Ricky.

Ricky became one of my best friends when I entered Black Junior High, new to the school and the neighborhood. He was so friendly and welcoming to me - he made all the difference in my junior high experience and we continued to be close friends until his tragic death. I was also an only child and my parents loved having him at our home. For years after I would read the yearbook dedication with tears for his loss and gratitude for our time together. Thanks for the reminder of his short but meaningful time with us.

Ricky was in my homeroom. I was a very much a loner and felt that nobody ever would notice me or be my friend. Ricky said "Hi" to me more than once when we all were heading into homeroom in the mornings and when he did, it made my day. Now, I am quite certain that I wasn't the only shy socially awkward kid in the school but with the exaggerated feelings of being a teenager I really felt that way. His noticing me enough to say Hi made me stand a bit taller, walk a bit more surely and hold tightly to the knowledge that maybe I was a real person after all.

Ricky lived across the street from me. He and I planted a Tallow tree in my front yard..I drove by my old house when I was in town and the tree is still alive and incredible large ans tall.
